After uninstalling the Linksys wireless device and the networking protocols for the umpteenth time, he deleted the Winsock registry entries again, rebooted, reinstalled the Linksys software, If you cannot ping localhost (the machine in question from itself), the problem is within that PC and not with the router.

Ideally some knowledgeable type person will say " go and buy xxxxxx, that is exactly what you need" Linksys WRT54G(S?) is a good 'un. PC World are doing a special on them at the moment I think. Installed one for my sister last week. Does wireless, but you needn't enable it.

I'm using MDK10.1 with a 2200 wireless. I see that you get "Tx-Power:off" as report from iwconfig whereas I get "Tx-Power=20 dBm". Maybe that's a peculiarity of the 2100, but it looks suspect to me. The other thing is that the 'Nickname: "192.168.2.1"' doesn't look right, if that's the IP address of your gateway

Odd that the base station sees the notebook when the notebook is using the wireless connection and that it assigns an IP address. Odd that that the notebook sees the basestation and detects the gateway, but can't do anything more than that, AND, won't put the gateway into the MCC Wireless Connection "status" area.
